pioggia.

raincoats; a word that rarely enters my head for the reason that it conjures up unwanted images of yellow plastic rain ponchos and khaki green pac-a-macs. distinctly for hillwalkers and all those other people that take copious amounts of pleasure walking in the pissing rain for no purpose, the raincoat is not and has never been your must have piece du jour. to great lengths i would go to never, ever have a reason buy one in the past, but it's becoming ever more palpable that at T in the Park, there's no other alternative but to don one of these inelegant things. i have been scouring the internet for something that won't make me look like one of these bedraggled hillwalkers, and this is what i've found thus far:

Vero Moda Zip Back Hooded Jacket @ ASOS

Animal Pac-A-Parka @ Topshop

yuck and yuck. the ASOS is wearable, but the Topshop one is a mere waste of fabric. they are also both £28, for a plastic sheath i'll wear for three days before it ends up in Save the Children. maybe, just maybe, by next week they'll have invented something that you can actually hold over your head while it rains to stop you getting wet, so i won't have to look like a soggy sack of potatoes. oh, wait...

fiore bianco.

tweed embellished jacket - balmain, strapless dress - stella mccartney, silver filigree clutch - celestina, ponyskin sandals - charlotte olympia, oversize stone ring - rings eclectic, ceasar leaf headband - louis mariette, mac lipstick in snob, essie polish in pink glove service, dandelion by benefit, chloe eau de parfum.

i loved seeing lily in that exquisite Chanel dress a few months back, i definitely think she pulls off the classic, perfectly coiffed look with stunning elan. that's why i chose the balmain jacket and the stella dress, together they evoke a pure, polished look. i added the charlotte olympia's because lily's still only 24, so i thought they would offset the dress and the jacket perfectly by added a touch of lily's wild side, haha. i'm just in love with that headband, i want it so bad!

modo di uomini part due.

I'll be honest, Comme Des Garcon disappointed me a little. i was expecting something a little more avant garde, but i got AC/DC instead. some of the suits were impeccable though, and again, as with rick owens, more harem pants for men. still, more man skirts? pass.

i loved, loved, loved Givenchy! even the man-sandals. again, more drop crotch pants, but these are my favourite for the simple reason that they are paired with boots instead of shoes. it's utterly unembellished without being austere or dull. i especially loved that hoodie juxtaposed with the tailored jacket; satirical perfection!

i felt unmoved by jil sander this season, and for the most part, Raf Simons' own collection. i'm sure Jil Sander will be hailed as the 'best thing in fashion like, ever' by many, but it was just boring. Raf Simons did at least have some redeeming features, one being those strong shoulders on coats and jackets. i also loved the multi-belted waists too, which can be easily copied without looking like you've tried too hard. if only more men made the effort!

just one thing about the male fashion industry though: why do half the models look prepubescent? is this a trend that's spread from woman's fashion? because it's totally taking away from everything a man should represent, and personally, clothes look better on actual men instead of 16 year old boys. it's most unattractive and i feel it actually takes away from collections when you've children parading around playing dress up. you'll never sell clothes to powerful men, where the real money is, if you present the collection clumsily. fair enough, if prepubescent is your whole aesthetic, then go for it.

modo di uomini part uno.

i didn't always have an avid interest in menswear, for the simple reason that, up until maybe two years ago, i was as closed minded to think that it was 'all suits & shit'. but of course, with my fascination for all things Rick Owens, i gradually opened myself up to browsing all the men's shows with the same voraciousness as the womanswear shows every new season, and i have yet to be disenchanted. with menswear comes a vast array of contrasting aesthetics to womanswear, bringing something a bit more unorthodox to the table. or mines, anyway. with rick owens spring '10 collection, i noticed the subtle introduction to harem pants like i spoke about in a previous post, except in short form. i loved the Rick Owens show, especially with the illusive flashes of denim, his signature leather jackets and those amazing neck pieces. i'm not sold on the man-skirt yet, so that's the only downfall.

i was quietly impressed with Yves Saint Laurent, especially the first image above. i feel that in the past a lot of the YSL menswear collections have been, dare i say, a little uptight, but this collection was all about flowing layers and experimenting with contrasting fabrics and textures. i felt that stefano pilati should have carried on in the same vein as the first ensemble, but i loved the whole collection no less for it.

i've never really been an adoring fan of anything Louis Vuitton for the name conjures up images of the infamous LV luggage counterfeited globally and worn on the shoulders of many undesirables. it's a pity really, because LV's collections have been and are some of the most beautifully tailored collections of all time and as with the situation with Burberry, their name has been marred because of the attachment to the aforementioned undesirables. nonetheless, their most recent menswear collectionwas not what i was expecting at all. i think more men should wear tailored short suits, and these LV suits look so effortlessly put together. i think i might even go as far to say that this was my favourite mens show this season. although i'll have to get over the flip flops first...

my titp wardrobe, if my money was limitless. i can't believe that studded vest is from oasis, i shall buy instantly!

il mio idolo.

"I'm obsessed with image. It's true, clothes are like a disease for me. I collect them, maybe I'll wear them just once but I have to own them. I have 4000 pair of shoes. My entire house is a closet, I even invaded part of the kitchen and the basement . When you enter my house is like going into Barneys because everything is tagged and enveloped in a maniacal way. My true weakness is jewelery because I think that it makes a difference in an outfit. And since I come from the south of Italy when I was a little kid I used to look upon Barese women and I wanted to wear jewelery like them."

i've seen and have been collecting photos of this amazing woman for a while now, but until i read 'Alla corte di Re Moda' by Fedi and Serlenga, i had a very vague idea about who she was. it seems like she's lead such an elaborately luxurious life, and i could not stop reading this book once i started. she wears pieces that noone else would even contemplate wearing due to their sheer grandeur. her penchant for a little balmain does not go unnoticed either, donning that jacket in a way not even beyonce could compete with. and also, she says she has 4,000 pairs of shoes, which makes her my ultimate icon.

distillatore.

forget the fact that photo has a lame as blog name printed on it, my photoshop has gone on strike for the night for reasons i am not yet privy to.

but anyway, i've been waiting with bated breath to see how exactly i could fit in my obsession with ms dalle into this blog while linking it to its main purpose. truth is, i'm just not that good at writing, and so instead of making a lame ass attempt at pretending she's a 'fashion icon', (i hope that line isn't lost on the one person who knows how much the phrase makes me squeal with indecorous laughter) i shall simply gush how much i am love with her. i mean, i love that she doesn't give a shit, so to speak, about what she chooses to adorn herself with. she is, in no small way, absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful in her own idiosyncratic style.

and she's not another rock star poseur in the vain of courtney love, the veronicas, ashlee simpson, avril lavigne or  gossip girl's own little protege, taylor momsen to name but a few and i regret even mentioning them in the same sentence. she's actually an ingenious wordsmith and she genuinely writes with a semblance of true sentimentality and discernment. plus, her raspy voice makes me melt everytime. josh homme, you are a lucky man, indeed.

nel parco.

so, i've decided that not even the temperamental scottish weather will be able to put a dampner on the T in the Park weekend, and i've bought myself a pair of wellies 'cause well, you never know. i've waited so long wondering whether i'll have a job in time for me to be able to buy a ticket && get time off but now i'm pretty much sure of it, and for sure, no damn rain shall dampen my spirits! i'm aware that wellies are pretty much hit & miss, because for the most part people opt for heeled wellies (a la prada, wtf?) and wellies with flowers, love hearts and polka dots, which is a mortal sin in my books. so if Hunter wellies are good enough for Kate, Lily and Ashley, they're damn well good enough for me (if they arrive on time?). and i might still look like a twat, but at least my wellies aren't eye sores :).

from top left: Topshop blazer, felder felder cuff, Armor Toro body chain, AA bodysuit, Topshop floral playsuit, James Perse tee, Just FM caged black sandals, J.Maskrey for Melissa Swarovski black brogues.

oh, hi pay day! 11 days & counting, it's been a long time coming! ow much do those Melissa brogues look like the Louboutin ones Ashley wore a few years back? i've been searching for a pair just like those since, even if they are rubber, haha.

20 June 2009

i've never really been a great fan of sienna miller, even back when she dressed relatively well. but it seems i'm not the only one to notice ms miller's choosing more interesting pieces these days. is that a pair of alejandro ingelmo's i spy? envy does not even come close. i hope she keeps this up!

anima allineare.

seeing as i've finished uni for the summer, i find myself with plenty of spare time, which led to quite possibly, the best piece of tv ever to come out of the US. i had seen small ads scattered here and there, but i didn't think it was that big a deal until i saw so many people twitter about season 2 on twitter. the first season hasn't begun in the UK yet, so i managed to find a sneaky source where i could watch it online and i am addicted. robert pattinson is no longer my favourite englishman-pretending-to-be-an-american-vampire, my lust now lies with this man:

i was a little more than disappointed to find out that stephen moyer isn't infact a southern gentleman, but more your average essex boy. still, he's insanely attractive, and i've now found a replacement for r-patz now that he's been stolen by a zillion hormonal girls under 16. god, now i sound like one of them.

me, io stesso ed I.

so today, i'm suffering from a serious case of messy face, caused by the fact my camera timer stretches to only 10 seconds, and because i'm without a tripod. thus, i shall remain headless! it's the main reason there's never been any personal style posts before now. this is what i chose to wore on the most blustery day glasgow has ever had, i wish summer would hurry up and show face already :).

18 June 2009

biancheria.

i must admit, i have another addiction. it's another reason i can't wait for the end of the month, because it's something i've held back on indulging upon due to the damage my frequent splurges had done in the past to my fragile bank account. it's not as acceptable as buying five pair of shoes in one go, and it's gotten so out of order that i no longer have enough space in my tiny little room to store it any longer.

that seems impossible, almost, but i wish i was exaggerating. yes, indeed, i am lingerie addict. it started to take over my drawers, so it moved onto hangers and now i've resorted to keeping it in a box until i find some way to inject some more space into my bijou boudoir. still, that mere fact shall not hinder my quest for more, and god, do i have a list already! it begins with anything by stella mccartney, a fact well highlighted in previous posts:

eve giggling body suit.

grace waking chemise.

louise dancing bodysuit.

clara whispering bra.

i'm not even a big fan of bodysuits, i just find that all of her pieces are so exquisitely delicate and would be an absolute pleasure to wear, especially under something really boring and grey. i am in love with the clara whispering bra, it's better than anything La Perla could ever dream of producing and it's so utterly chaste and provocative at the same time. anyway, now onto some La Perla:

i'm not usually a fan of La Perla, if i'm being completely honest because simply, they can be overpriced. however, it seems lately i've had for a penchant for finespun, wispy lace, and these two pieces are exactly that. i think the delicate lace is so alluring without being trashy, which is what i love about it, and you can't find that in Primark, that's for sure. but for something a little more erotic, Coco de Mer is my ultimate, ultimate favourite, even just to look at in awe and their own lingerie label is out of this world beautiful. here's some more of my favourites:

Coco de Mer Sylph Front Fastening BraFleur of England Something Blue Silk setLascivious Kitty bra

La Perla Black Label Pizzo Balconette bra

i look forward to adding to my already indulgent collection.

cristallo.

do i start every post with 'okay'? it seems that way. anyway, i can't leave this kristen stewart thing alone, so i thought i'd at least attempt to give her another go, except casual wear instead. imagine her without the dodgy Joan Jett-esque mullet, though.

kristen stewart - casual
crystal panel sandals - balmain, blackened white gold lace ring - muriel grateau, coral textured clutch - stella mccartney, blazer - alexander wang, leather skinnies - maison martin margiela, marchasite leopard watch - bex rox, eclipse bracelet - lara bohinc, studded belt - htc, eve giggling bodysuit - stella mccartney, california coral polish - essie, coral pearl gloss - guerlain, mango crush lip & cheek stain - stila

if you'll excuse the visual overload, i reckon this outfit would make her look her age for once. especially with the stella bodysuit being a little risqué without being trashy. i think it's obvious i'm in utter lust with the stella mccartney lingerie line, every piece is so beautifully delicate and they have kitschy little pin-up names too.

17 June 2009

i reckon i'm not the only one rejoicing the fact that miss mary-kate has actually been wearing pieces that are a little more accessible, like the matthew williamson for h&M belt and the h&m dress she donned to the matthew williamson for h7M opening, and the topshop dress she's wearing above. i might not wear it myself, but at least i can admire how she makes it look good :).

14 June 2009

missoni.

i'm not sure why i haven't heard anything about this anywhere before now, unless i've just been totally oblivious to newspapers or whatever. but it seems, missoni have opened a hotel in edinburgh, of all places. i suppose i can't have been too belated with this, seeing as it merely opened approximately 6 days ago, but it looks incredible.

not totally sure why missoni chose edinburgh, of all the places they could've chosen from, but it's an amazing venture and i'm sure it'll entice some different types of tourists who can't be arsed travelling to kuwait to see the other missoni hotel. everything appears so exquisitely put together, i'm definitely going to give this place a visit. and i checked out the prices, which are surprisingly tame compared to some unjustifiably overpriced, mediocre hotels around the capital. ahh, to sleep in missoni fabrics every night!
