making some pretty scary decisions about my future right now that i probably should've had the guts to make two years ago. i think i'm tired of pretending that spending another three years on a degree i'm beginning to resent is a good idea and is all going to work out okay. no, i think i'm doing what's going to make me happy for once, instead of trying to please other people. i am not a failure, i'm tired of having my creativity bounded by the restraints of insipid mediocrity; continuous essays, written exams, lectures, tutorials i've no interest in and will never have. time to compile the hundreds of sketches i drew all over lecture notes and text books for a good purpose. time to be a little badass and hedonistic with my brand new shiny sewing machine in tow. kiss my christopher kane covered ass, university of strathclyde.

dita!

even as a lingerie extraordinair, i had no idea about this collection until just this second when i decided to have a peek on ASOS for some pre-pay day perusing. ohhh, little screams of joy emitted from my very mouth when i saw it being advertised on the ASOS homepage. Dita Von Teese for Wonderbra?! it's a match made in hosiery heaven. examine:

the prices are pretty reasonable as well for a piece of Dita, but it's a vvvv small collection, and those four photos are virtually the WHOLE collection. not complaining though, i love the risqué sequinned bows and the delicate lace but most of all, i NEEEED that red satin waspie and soon! i love you, Dita, you fox.

i love you alexa, but even i can see what's wrong with this photo. nobody should be allowed to sit beside Anna! ooooh i'm betting someone lost their job over this.

tumblr.

i've had a tumblr for a while, i just never really got around to posting about it. it's a little bit more personal and a bit less fashion oriented, just random musings, really :).

nyfw spring/summer '10 pt. due.

i promised myself i wouldn't give a review of every show i hated 'cause that would take a while and it would get kinda boring half way in. so i thought i'd add the shows i anticipated most but was swiftly dismayed, beginning with Mr A. Wang..
i refrained from using all the horrible outfits from the Alexander Wang show 'cause it actually pained me how bad some of it was, so i only included two of the worst beside the ones i actually liked. i'm totally not feeling layered sweatpants, leather headpieces, grey jersey, pyjama prints and the random introduction of animal prints thrown into the mix. even the shoes in this show were a huge disappointment. naturally, i loved all the black pieces Mr Wang has created and i sorta wish he'd stuck to more of the same. the bad stuff isn't even 'so bad it's good' bad, it's just plain awful and i was so gutted when i saw it all. i loved the braids though, ingenious.
3.1 Phillip Lim was just a pale Rodarte imitation for the predominance of the show. it's what it would look like if Primark tried to rip off Rodarte and sell for a significantly cut price of the original using cheap fabrics. it actually made me sorta mad that Phillip Lim thought he could pull this off without anyone noticing? i can imagine Anna tutting audibly as this dupe stomping down the runway. i did love the spangly blazer though..
i've sorta lost interest in marc jacobs since he became a slimmed-down, bronzed version of his former self but i always had hope he'd return with vigour. i loved some of the Louis Vuitton shows in the past but this line just hasn't done it for me in a while and i'm not ashamed to admit this. for so many years i have tried to love Marc Jacobs but it's been a futile task. this year was no different, although Marc made it easy to hate. no heels, horrid flats, an overuse of ruffles...argh! i mean, i can say that every piece is so beautifully structured and there's amazing craftsmanship but it's just...tragically bad. there was one dress i liked in this whole collection and that was the final dress. it didn't flow from the rest of the collection but i was past caring about that by the time i reached the end.
charlotte ronson wasn't awful, admittedly. the styling was impeccable which is just as well 'cause it could've been car crash material without it. i loved the jackets and strangely, the sheer leggings. i'm feeling like a lot of it was Stella McCartney-inspired though, which is never a bad thing but it's quite derivative and so apparent. one of Charlotte's most impressive collections though, i never bothered with her before.

i'm not even going to bother with the rest as so many were dull and uninspiring, Narciso Rodriguez being one of those. and Proenza Schouler, oh jeez. i know Proezna's been getting a lot of good feedback from bloggers but it was a shambles! bring on Paris && London.

nyfw spring/summer '10 pt. uno.

before i start, i realise that New York fashion week isn't usually the most inspirational of the lot in that it's more about wearability for the predominance of the shows. but even with this fact taken into consideration, i still feel that it's been pretty lacklustre for the most part. in fact, it even managed to turn me off a few of my favourite designers which is an achievement in itself. i thought that with this whole recession thing going on, it was all about creating amazing investment pieces, but those were few and far between also. i did, however, find a few new designers to paw over which can only be a good thing. and oh my god, Rodarte?!

oh my, i loved it! it was magnificently gothic and eerily enchanting, sort of queen of the tribe meets crazy ass witch doctor. i can't remember who said it, but someone described it as something from Macbeth and that is a perfect description. the selection of mismatched fabrics and prints is pure genious. i could totally see rihanna rocking one of the black dresses. not sure how much longer Rodarte can continue with the same aesthetic by using different colours, but it's not wearing yet.
i'd never heard of toni maticevski before now, which i'm ashamed to admit as it's evident this man is pure genius. apparently he had a placement at DKNY and Cerruti. anyway, his Spring/Summer collection was exquisite. i adored the off-white, almost grungey palette he used and the statement shoulder pieces were out of this world. it was all very tragic bride-stood-up-at-the-alter-and-walked-home-in-the-rain like. i never said i was good with descriptions, i just know this was my favourite show of NYFW. a wordsmith i am not!
i'd never heard of Milly either until this year. or perhaps Michelle Smith's cutesy little line had just never caught my eye before but i loved every single piece of this collection. the statement neck pieces, embellished jackets, silk blouses, printed skirts, silk shorts, that flower-printed blazer, the hair bows, the braided belts, the ankle socks, ugh! i want it all, now. definitely going to look out for more Milly in the future.

that looks like some very precise photoshopping up there, but i can assure you it's just that the Temperley show had a white background. i'm still just as awful as i always have been. anyway, i've always loved me some alice temperley and this year she didn't fail to impress. the british influence didn't go unnoticed either and i loved the nod to the Pearly Kings & Queens because she even made buttons look amazing. the attention to detail is spectacular and every piece in the show is so beautifully and perfectly constructed. i want everything!
i command you buy this album, it's maybe the best album of this whole year. obviously excluding Flo, 'cause she's the queen of magnificance. currently in the process of photoshopping collages of my favourite NYFW shows but they're few and far between. it's maybe one of the least inspiring fashion weeks since i can remember, so awful.

badass studs, cuffs and spikes. spending too much time going through all the shows from NYFW which i guess explains the lack of posts, but lots to come. just one thing though: wtf, Alexander Wang?

collegamenti.

i have to vent, it's something i can contain no longer; i hate these. i hate what they stand for, i hate the people who wear them and i hate how they've become so popular. sure thing, if you want to spend £120 on something that looks suspiciously cheap and absurdly unimaginative for sheer status purpose, but you look like an ass, to be honest. i fail to see the appeal, and i'm pretty sure 99.99% of people are wearing them to show that they are foolish enough to spend £120 on something so pathetically dull and so very far from being aesthetically pleasing. instead, i have an idea. save yourself up an extra £55 and buy yourself something a bit more badass like this skull necklace from Alexander McQueen. that way, it won't turn your arm green* and you won't look like everyone else..*a mere assumption!

mka!

ahhh, perfect! i love these girls so bad.
